A place for every watch.

The right format starts with your habits. A few pointers to help your collection.

  2. 02Distinguish storage from winding
  3. 03Allow for the space you will need

Three uses, three ways to choose.

Start with your daily routine: keep an automatic watch running, store your collection or take a few pieces with you.

The number after the name indicates how many watches the model holds. Belgrave 6 holds six; Kensington 10 holds ten. For combination models Stanford 4 and Somerset 2, it indicates the number of motorised slots. The question is which capacity suits you.

The simple rule

Count your watches and add two. Collections rarely shrink, and an empty slot costs less than buying a second piece six months later.

One to two watches

You wear an automatic on a daily basis and you may have a second. An individual winder is enough: Ashford 1 for the classic box, Waverly 1 for the most compact format, Oxford 1 if you want a round object that shows up, Brompton 1 if it travels with you.

For two watches, Belgrave 2 is vertical, Richmond 2 horizontal under a low shelf, Wellington 2 If you want height, Berkley 2 If you want an extra drawer.

To carry one or two watches without winding them, a case is enough: Camden 1 or Hadley 1 for one, Hadley 2 or Ascot 2 For two.

Three to six watches

This is the point to choose between winding and storage. If most of your watches are automatic and worn in rotation, choose a winder: Blackwood 4, Belgrave 6, Blackwood 6, Langford 6. If they sleep more than they turn, a box is enough: Chester 5 for five, Kensington 6, Clarendon 6 or Chelsea 6 For six. To travel, Hadley 3 and Belsize 3 hold three, and Hadley 6 and Holborn 6 hold six.

Eight or more watches

At this stage, a mixed object becomes profitable. Stanford 4 winds four watches and stores six; Somerset 2 winds two and stores eight. For storage alone, Windsor 8 accommodates eight watches under glazing, Kensington 10 and Clarendon 10 holds ten. To take the collection with you, Hadley 8 holds eight. If you want to wind every watch, Belgrave 12 or Blackwood 12.
